Above All - Your Home and Safety is Our ONLY Priority!

RadonDog only uses Illinois Licensed and Insured measurements conducted by Certified Radon Measurement Professionals. In Illinois, there are only 289 people with this designation. In Madison County, Illinois (aka The Backyard), there are only 6 Certified and Licensed Radon Measurement Professionals.

Who is doing your Radon testing? The State of Illinois says they have to be Radon Measurement Professionals. You might hear the phrase "Radon Measurement Technician". This is a different classification, one that highlights the Technician's role as being supervised by a Radon Measurement Professional. There are 176 Radon Measurement Technicians in Illinois.

Other Radon designations in Illinois include the Radon Mitigation Professional and Radon Mitigation Technician. They help plan and implement Radon mitigation efforts in homes and buildings. They should not be doing Radon testing because the State of Illinois sees this as a conflict of interest. Think of it this way: if a mitigation firm is testing, who are they working for during that test? Themselves. Who will they refer for the job? Themselves. Are they looking for a captive audience of clients? Well, YES.

Primary Services:

I do Radon Testing with professional grade activated charcoal and continuous monitoring equipment that cannot be found at the Lowe Depot. There, you'll find consumer-oriented tests that are highly likely to be inaccurate.

An activated charcoal test is a small container of activated charcoal that measures the highest level of Radon found above a home foundation over a 48 - 72 hour period of time. This is called the Radon Potential. After meeasurement, the test is sent in to a lab where the Radon level is measured. Your time from test to verified result is about 6 days. The charcoal test requires closed home conditions.

Continuous monitoring equipment is sophisticated and accurate and has the big advantage of providing results within 2-3 days after the test begins. The continuous monitor is placed on the lowest occupiable level for 48 hours to 72 hours (or longer.. up to a year). It measures direct Radon concentrations hourly during the testing time. Radon levels do vary in homes due to weather pressure, wind, seismic disturbances, and home ventillation.

The continuous monitor allows for normal home conditions. It gives a more realistic view regarding Radon levels in a home that is normally occupied.

Other Services:

There are two other services RadonDog can provide, but they are not part of the everyday business, yet. They are METH/MDMA testing and environmental mold testing. Would you like to know if the house you're considering has ever been a METH House or Lab? Sure, you would. The nominal amount of money is well spent for the housing environment and for the potential criminal proceedings where a house could become encumbered. The METH test involves a survey of Court records, and a wipedown test to see if there are residues.
